Anyone can request a free home safety check subject to availability.
While on site I always aim to give free advice, answer any questions customers have and carry out some safety checks – these are visual checks.
Anytime you have an electrical job done these basics should always be checked to ensure that your installation is in a position to accept the new works needed.
Other basic safety checks include bonding, earthing and RCD protection.
When you have any electrical work done always be sure to get a certificate for the works done and always use a registered electrician.

Following on about the EICR / Visual checks.
Happy to do what we can in the 45 minute window. With this restricted time we will only have time for visual checks and no electrical testing. Naturaly we will charge accordingly, which would be £150 Inc vat (our minimum charge) Instead.
Visual checks 45 mins
Look in each room at switches sockets and lights, remove a few covers to inspect the wiring.
Remove cover on fuse box
Check the electric meter cupboard box
Check Earthing and Main bonding to gas and water
Check smoke alarms are in date
Look at the other components you wanted us to
Full EICR 3-4 Hours
Visual Inspection
Inspect each room for the condition and safety of switches, sockets, and lighting fixtures.
Check for any visible signs of wear, damage, overheating, or exposed wires.
Inspect the consumer unit (fuse box) and any accessible electrical components.
Testing of Circuits and Devices
Perform insulation resistance tests to assess cable integrity and ensure there are no faults between conductors.
Conduct continuity tests on ring circuits to ensure all connections are sound.
Check polarity to confirm correct wiring at outlets and fixtures.
Carry out earth fault loop impedance tests to ensure safe disconnection times.
Test RCDs (Residual Current Devices) to verify they trip within acceptable times to protect from electric shock.
Measure the prospective fault current (PFC) to check the capacity of the system to withstand fault conditions.
Other electrical testing such as ring final circuit checks.
Main Earthing and Bonding
Verify the main earthing arrangements are in place and adequate.
Confirm the main protective bonding to gas, water, and any other metallic service pipes.
water, and any other metallic service pipes.
Electric Meter and Consumer Unit (Fuse Box)
Inspect the consumer unit, looking for outdated or damaged components.
Verify that MCBs (Miniature Circuit Breakers) and RCDs are appropriately rated and in good working condition.
Check labels and markings on the consumer unit, including circuit identification.
Assess whether the consumer unit has an appropriate means of isolation.
Detailed Report with Classification Codes
Identify and classify any issues found, using codes to indicate severity:
Code C1: Immediate danger – requires urgent repair.
Code C2: Potential danger – remedial action needed.
Code C3: Improvement recommended.
FI: Further investigation needed.
Documentation and Recommendations
Provide a detailed report of findings and suggested remedial actions, where applicable.
Include test results and measurements for each circuit tested.
Recommend actions for compliance and improvements to meet current electrical safety standards
Purpose of an EICR:
Purpose of an EICR: ensuring the safety, functionality, and compliance of the electrical installation with current standards. Emphasize that it’s particularly valuable in identifying hidden faults that can pose future risks.
Limitations of a Visual Check:
While visual checks can spot some immediate issues, they lack the comprehensive diagnostic capacity of an EICR, particularly for faults like insulation degradation, hidden wiring issues, or circuit disconnections that are not outwardly visible.
Long-Term Value of Full EICR:
A full EICR can provide a clearer understanding of potential issues, which helps avoid more costly repairs or risks down the line, could reinforce the importance of this option.
I hope this information gives you an idea of the difference, its important to understand that 98% of the electrics in a home is hidden in the fabric of the building (floors/walls/ceilings) this is why electrical testing is so important as this is the only way to ascertain the condition of an installation, the tester can see things that cannot be visually seen.
Finally, Electrical Services that give you work completed on time and on budget.
